| We are pleased
to announce that Bill Duncan of Couzinz and Peter
Liston of Lakewood Stud have agreed on the mating
of Sweet Human
with Foxhound
this season. The resultant foal will be a full
brother or full sister to the outstanding Golden
Fox, winner of the Champagne Classic (G3).
A chance encounter at the Surfers Paradise Marriott
Hotel on the morning of the Magic Millions Weanling
Sale at the Gold Coast on 15th June was the catalyst
for this agreement.
Bill Duncan Bloodstock Pty Ltd purchased Sweet
Humam at the 2002 Inglis Broodmare Sale.
She was subsequently mated with Honours
List and produced a filly foal that is
now one of our best developed weanlings at Couzinz.
In the meantime, the prior progeny of Sweet
Humam, a colt by Foxhound,
was sold at the 2002 Inglis Weanling Sales and
subsequently entered for the Magic Millions March
Yearling Sales the following year. Due to his
sway back, there was little interest in him except
by Trevor Whittington, a New Zealander who has
been training on the Gold Coast for the past ten
years.
The rest of the story has been well documented
with Golden Fox
commencing his career with two easy barrier trial
wins at the Gold Coast and a first up unplaced
run in the Meynink (LR) after leading the field
into the long Eagle Farm straight. After a two
months break, Golden
Fox strung together four wins in succession
with margins of 2.5 lengths on each occasion.
These wins included the Golden Stakes (LR) and
the Champagne Classic (G3). As favourite for the
Sires Produce (G1), he tried valiantly to lead
all the way over 1400m at Eagle Farm but was run
down in the straight. He has now gone for a well
earned spell and will be back in the spring to
take on the three year olds in the sprint classics.
It is said that there is always a story behind
every outstanding racehorse and there is none
more interesting than the one behind the mating
of Sweet Humam,
a relatively inexpensive mare, back to Foxhound
who returns to Australia after a three year absence.
The challenge will be to produce a colt or filly
that can emulate the outstanding efforts of a
sway back colt that achieved group success in
his first year. Part of the process is already
underway as Sweet Humam
is now the pride of Bill Duncan's broodmare band
at Couzinz. On the other hand, the owners of Golden
Fox have received a firm offer of $750,000
and are considering their options during his break.
You can be assured that with these circumstances
working in the background, the Honours
List filly from Sweet
Humam will be guaranteed an interesting
future. Keep your eye out for her when she enters
the racing scene in 2005. |
