After dedicating
three years to the establishment of the Couzinz
business and careful development of the property,
stud managers Ian and Belinda will return to their
Greenmount property Westhaven Park
in February 2007 to pursue their own business
interests and raise their four young boys.
In the three short
years they have spent at Couzinz,
Ian and Belinda have planned and coordinated the
transformation of the property from the existing
infrastructure, into a professional and well-presented
working horse facility. They have overseen the
conversion of dilapidated paddock fencing into
a resourceful hierarchy of horse and foal friendly
accommodation. Their efficient design sees the
linking of the two stable blocks and loading ramps
at the operational core of the property to small
and large day yards radiating out via a system
of laneways, essential to the safe and efficient
movement of livestock, to the larger boundary
paddocks.
Other upgrades initiated
by Ian and Belinda have been the construction
of foaling yards between the two residences, complete
with floodlights; stable renovations including
full rubber lining, new steel doors and mesh openings
between boxes, which have proved valuable for
calming weanlings; and a 12 month reticulation
project which has seen the replacement of old
underground piping to service an updated automatic
watering system for all paddocks and yards.
Upon their return,
Ian and Belinda’s Westhaven
Park business will diversify into two
new areas. The property is currently operating
as a spelling facility and accommodating their
own thoroughbred breeding program. However, with
a recent infrastructure upgrade including the
addition of covered yards, round yard and sand
arena suitable for both English and Western riding
pursuits, the couple’s combined horse knowledge
and training ability will become available to
the stockhorse and polocrosse industries.
Ian will be joined
by long-time friend and accomplished horseman
Kel Freeburn in a venture which will seek out
and select the finest available stockhorses to
cater for an increasingly demanding equestrian
market. Belinda will draw on her wealth of experience
in competitive polocrosse in her endeavour to
produce talented and viable mounts specifically
for this popular horse sport.
The return of Ian
and Belinda to Westhaven
Park marks a milestone
in the growth and development of Couzinz.
They have been the backbone of the business since
it’s conception and have established it’s
credibility within an extremely competitive industry.
They will be extraordinarily difficult to replace
and Couzinz is now embarking
on a complex recruitment scheme. A full job description
